Presentation of research project

The "Urban Pedestrian Mobilities" Cross-cutting Group leverages its multi-disciplinary cross-lab perspective to tackle research into pedestrian mobilities.

For the past decade or so, walking around town, pedestrians and pedestrian mobility have been the subject of renewed focus on the part of urban authorities and planners in line with increasing environmental concerns, the development of inter-modal transport solutions and the emergence of lifestyles that prize harmonious relations within the urban sphere and enhanced health and welfare inter alia.

Pioneering research has been  conducted into the sensorial dimensions of the pedestrian experience, modelling pedestrian behaviour, developing a street code that is more favourable to vulnerable users, and the role of walking in combatting obesity and heart disease.
