Integrating nature into planning and urban production

This focuses on spaces where nature is deliberately preserved or created from scratch because it is a part of a project. The aim is to study processes whereby planners harness nature or incorporate nature-based solutions into their projects (from design to execution), assess the fit between objectives set down and actually achieved (from intention to action), study the methods deployed to do this, analyse the impacts that this has on urban stakeholder practices (those of designers, producers, managers and inhabitants) as well as on the ecosystem functions of these new spaces.

Nature on the fringes of town planning operations

Here we look at spaces present in the urban fabric that do not get specific attention from planners but that may still be taken up and used be inhabitants and provide ecosystem functions. They may comprise urban wasteland or spaces set aside for projects. The aim is to study forme of nature that persist or appear in these specific cases and to assess the impacts of spontaneous/non institutionnalised practices on these spaces, and to analyse the transformation processes at work over time that may requalify these natural spaces;

Marne-la-Vallée Campus

The geographic location of the institutions and teams of Université Paris-Est is an opportunity to complete these types of initiative which may be developed in a highly original manner thanks to the multi-disciplinary possibilities existing within LABEX.

The Ile-de-France region (Greater Paris)

The partnership may be extensed to the Greater Paris region in order to set the Cross-cutting Group's research on an operational footing.
